Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya follows the life of Maheshu (Satya Dev), a photographer in the town of Araku. His usual, composed life takes a turn when he ends up a victim in a local brawl. The aftermath forms the rest of the story.
Any discussion about this film must start with Satya Dev who steals the show as Uma Maheshwara. Satya Dev had proved his mettle earlier with some of the characters he played, but he couldn’t score big in the lead role. This movie has got all his brilliance. His new look, slang and the subtle aggression, is a treat to watch. The casting of this movie is perfect. Suhas, Naresh and the lead actress complement the film very well. Her performance in the flash mob sequence is striking.
The cinematography is excellent. The film captures the entire vibe of Araku Valley in a way never before. The editing is decent as well.
The first half of UMUR is near-perfect and the film has some pacing issues in the latter half. The flash mob sequence is quite long. The last 20 minutes make up for this with a powerful yet sensible finish.
Venkatesh Maha, who made a super strong debut with Care of Kancherapalem, succeeds once again.
Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya is an interesting slice-of-life drama with multiple facets and subplots dealt with authentic, mature thought.
Certain parts of second half are a bit boring and barring that, it’s a very good watch.
